Florida Requirements Overview:

Florida's (FL) CPA exam requirements are advantageous for people trying to get a head start on their CPA as FL does not require 150 hours prior to sitting. 

Follow each caption below to ensure that you are qualified to sit for the exam.

Education Requirements

What are the education requirements in Florida?

150 Hours Requirement

FL requires at least 120 hours to sit and a minimum of Bachelors degree or above

Accounting Course Requirements

FL requires 24 semester hours from a 4 year university. 
* Classes must include tax, auditing, cost/managerial, financial, and accounting IS.
* Classes for non-accounting majors or elementary accounting courses for MBAs will NOT be counted.

Business Course Requirements

FL requires 24 semester hours including micro and macro economics, statistics. 

Intermediate/advanced accounting can also qualify for these credit hours.

Business Law Requirements

FL requires 3 semester hours of business law, which must include contracts, torts, and the uniform commercial code.

Ethics Exam

No specific ethics exam requirements


Age & Residency Requirements

What are the age and residency requirements in Florida?

US Citizenship Requirement

You are NOT Required for Florida to be US Citizen to sit for the CPA exam, but a Social Security Number IS required to sit for the exam.

Residency Requirement

Florida does NOT require you to be a resident, employee, OR have an office in the state for you to take the CPA exam.

Minimum Age to Sit for the CPA Exam

Florida does not have a minimum age requirement to sit for the CPA exam

How much does it cost to take the CPA exam in Florida?

Florida has fairly standard exam fee rates. If you need to re-take a part there is a $65.00 re-application fee that you will have to pay.

Already Passed The CPA Exam in Florida? Here Are The CPA License Requirements

To become licensed in FL you are required to perform the following:

Education Requirements:
* 150 total semester hours
* Classes must include 36 credit hours of tax, auditing, cost/managerial, financial, and accounting IS.
* Business courses must include 39 upper-division classes and 6 hours of business law
* If 2 years have passed since you passed the CPA exam, then you will be required to take 80 CPE hours (20 in accounting and auditing and <20 hours in behavior subjects are required to obtain your license.

Experience Requirements:
* 1 year of supervised accounting experience (public or non) that must be verified by an active CPA licensee.
