Kentucky Requirements Overview:

Kentucky's (KY) CPA exam requirements are rather laid back compared to most states. There are not many specifics regarding required courses so be sure to double check with the state board to ensure you are taking the correct courses.

Education Requirements

What are the education requirements in Kentucky?

150 Hours Requirement

KY requires 150 hours or graduate degree

Accounting Course Requirements

KY requires 27 semester hours of Accounting

Business Course Requirements

KY requires 12 semester hours that may include business, finance, marketing, management, economics, computers, statistics, or accounting not included in the above.

Business Law Requirements

KY does not have a specific business law requirements

Ethics Exam

No Ethics exam requirement


Age & Residency Requirements

What are the age and residency requirements in Kentucky?

US Citizenship Requirement

You are NOT Required for Kentucky to be US Citizen to sit for the CPA exam

Residency Requirement

Kentucky does NOT require you to be a resident, employee, OR have an office in the state for you to take the CPA exam.

Minimum Age to Sit for the CPA Exam

Kentucky requires the applicant to be at least 18 prior to sitting for the CPA exam

Kentucky has fairly standard exam fee rates. If you need to re-take a part there is a $30.00 re-application fee that you will have to pay.

Already Passed The CPA Exam in Kentucky? Here Are The CPA License Requirements

To obtain your CPA license KY requires:

Education: 
Complete required 150 credit hours

Work Experience: 
* 1 year of public or non-public accounting experience
* Minimum of 2,000 hours
* Experience needs to be verified by a CPA but not superised by one
* College teaching of 1 year can also qualify as experience as long as it is 24 hours and at an institute for higher education
